Former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Eric Rabesandratana is not shying away from his criticism of the club’s current manager in Thomas Tuchel.
The German manager has certainly faced immense pressure over his current tenure as manager of PSG. This has come more so as of late due to the team’s slow start in Ligue 1 play. Rabesandratana has been following the club and is not particularly fond of how the team is currently structured under Tuchel. He thinks (via Le Parisien) that the club is lacking one central aspect under Tuchel that is sorely needed for any team in football.
“There’s no identity, so there’s no base and no certainty,” Rabesandratana said. “It’s the opposite of Laurent Blanc’s PSG. With the mastery of this team plus Neymar and Mbappe, Paris would walk all over all its opponents.”
Rabesandratana also thinks that Tuchel has work to do in formulating a more efficient game-by-game tactical plan. The former PSG talent often views the team as one-dimensional due to its heavy reliance on its duo of superstar forwards.
“Thomas Tuchel puts the players on the field and waits for his strikers to make the difference on their individual talent alone,” Rabesandratana said. “But if the opponent manages to control Neymar and Mbappe, the team is left without an option. It is not possible.”
In a familiar talking point regarding Tuchel, Rabesandratana also was critical of the German manager’s in-game management. He thinks that Tuchel has to better his in-game decisions.
“His choices are not clear,” Rabesandratana said. “Especially his changes. I don’t understand what he’s doing and how he’s reacting. He’s too much of a recluse and spectator. Without having enough influence on the course of the games. He seems a bit lost in his sporting logic.”
Tuchel is certainly in a tough period in his managerial tenure with the club, but he still has time to turn the tide around.
