Platini Analyzes a Major Tactical Change That Pochettino Should Consider Making for Messi, Neymar and Mbappe

Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino has garnered plenty of blame over the notion that the Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe trio has not lived up to expectations so far this season.

Former French international Michel Platini has been watching PSG over the season, and he sees that for Mbappe, the team should much consider exploiting his speed. For this to come to fruition, Platini, as he noted to RMC Sport‘s “Rothen s’enflamme show”, sees that Messi and Neymar each should become more of a playmaker for the French forward.

“Today, we focus on his [Mbappe’s] speed,” Platini said. “To use his speed, he needs to have good passers on the side. Neymar and Messi give very good passes. But if he doesn’t have those players around him, he will have to have other qualities, be more selfish and more individualistic to create chances.”

Overall, Pochettino has opted to roll out his team under a 4-3-3 formation. Under this setup, Messi and Neymar have found success in dishing out assists for Mbappe this season, although this has not come on a consistent match-by-match basis.

PSG will return to Ligue 1 play in the home encounter with Lorient on April 3.
