PSG Among Eight Clubs Fined by UEFA for FFP Breaches

Over the years, Paris Saint-Germain has had its run-ins with UEFA, and on Friday, news came out that the capital club will now have to pay an enormous fine to Europe’s governing body.

UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) announced that PSG is part of eight clubs that did not comply with the break-even provision. CFCB’s investigation covered the financial years of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Financial years 2020 and 2021 were subject to the Covid emergency standards aimed at neutralizing the negative effect of the pandemic. Under this criteria, the CFCB examined financial years 2020 and 2021 as one period, and clubs were permitted precise covid-19 adjustments.

The authorized deficit of €30 million per season has been exceeded. And the capital club is the one with the biggest of these deficits with the other seven clubs being AS Monaco, Olympique de Marseille, AS Roma, Inter Milan, Juventus, Besiktas, and AC Milan.

As a result, the Parisians face the most significant fine of €65 million, with €10 million will need to be paid immediately, the rest to be spread over the next three years. Three years is also the time that PSG has to comply with the financial fair play.

If PSG fails to comply, they could face restriction of the UEFA list from 25 players to 23, a ban on registering new players on this list, or exclusion from all continental competitions
