PSG President Takes Jab at Real Madrid for Celebrating UEFA Champions League

Paris Saint-Germain has a frosty relationship with Real Madrid, especially after the whole situation with Kylian Mbappé as both teams were vying to land the 23-year-old.

Now it seems that president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is throwing more ice into the connection between the two clubs after the club chief was confused about why the Spanish giants celebrated their UEFA Champions League last season.

Al-Khelaifi mentions this due to Real Madrid wanting to have the Super League go through last year, which resulted in the English clubs abandoning the competition after facing backlash.

“The strange thing is that they celebrate winning the club competition of UEFA,” Al-Khelaifi said at a recent ECA meeting (h/t 90min).

“It’s the best club competition in the world. It’s very strange that you go against the already existing and fantastic club competition, but that you participate, celebrate and enjoy winning the title, which seems to me very strange, honestly.”

These comments will probably make their way to Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez, who is going to share his remarks that won’t be painting Al-Khelaifi in a positive picture.

If these two clubs were to meet in the Champions League knockout stages, this would undoubtedly come up with the entire Mbappé pursuit saga as his decision didn’t sit well with their supporters.
