Galtier Drops a Hint on Potential Tactical Changes for PSG’s Ligue 1 Fixture vs. Marseille

Paris Saint-Germain will be without multiple defenders for its Ligue 1 home fixture against Olympique de Marseille. Among them, Sergio Ramos will miss this contest after he was handed a two-match suspension for the straight red card that he earned during PSG’s scoreless draw result against Reims.

PSG manager Christophe Galtier has mainly featured his side under a three-at-the-back setup this season, but as he touched on during a press conference ahead of the fixture against Marseille, he is not ruling out the possibility of soon rolling with a four-at-the-back system.

“Are we going to change our organization?” Galtier said. “Are we going to change to a three-man midfield? Are we going to play a 4-4-2? Will we stay with three at the back? Obviously, there are a lot of thoughts about this, about the state of form of each other. Are we thinking about changing the organization? Yes, should we change to a four-man defense and modify what happens up top?

“We have been thinking about this with my staff since the day after the game against Benfica. We’re thinking about what would be best for our players but also in relation to what OM is, a team that presses hard and manages to thwart the first ball out and foil the opponents.”

Regardless of the formation that Galtier will decide to go with for this match, Marquinhos and Danilo Pereira are expected to lead PSG’s backline. Veteran left-back Juan Bernat could also earn a start in this contest, which comes days after he played in 85 minutes of PSG’s draw result against Benfica on matchday four of this season’s UEFA Champions League group stage.

PSG heads into Ligue 1 matchday 11 with an eye on keeping its undefeated streak in league play.
