Ligue 1: Marco Verratti Joins David Beckham in Unfortunate Stat

Marco Verratti had a tough night in Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-1 draw against Stade de Reims on Sunday at the Parc des Princes. The Italian midfielder came into the game to tilt the matchup in PSG’s favor.

However, that didn’t occur. The 30-year-old spent a little over 13 minutes on the pitch before receiving a red card after a silly challenge on Junya Ito. Verratti’s sending-off was the third fastest PSG sent-off since 2006-07, with David Beckham and Layvin Kurzawa slightly ahead of him.

PSG played the majority of the second half down a man and while the capital club held on for most of the 45 minutes, Reims eventually broke through. In the contest’s final seconds, Folarin Balogun scored the game-tying goal.

Verratti playing in the second half would have helped the reigning Ligue 1 champions secure another goal to help them get the win. Nonetheless, that wasn’t the case. Now the French giants will be without the veteran for the matchup against Montpellier on Wednesday.
