Messi Ranks Only Behind De Bruyne, Trippier In This Key Playmaking Stat

Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi is not only back scoring goals at a formidable rate this season, but he has also continued to have his way as a playmaker.

Messi has so far featured in 15 Ligue 1 matches this season, where he has recorded 10 assists and posted a 2.5 key passes per match average. The Argentine forward is on his way to notching another 15-plus assists season in his storied career.

Overall, Messi has tallied 15 big chances in league play, which ranks only behind Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne (20) and Newcastle United full-back Kieran Trippier (16) for the most among all players in Europe’s top five leagues this season. PSG forwards Kylian Mbappe and Neymar round out the top six in this leaderboard with 12 big chances created each.

Messi has created at least one big chance in four out of his last five appearances in Ligue 1 play.

Messi is slated to return to Ligue 1 action in PSG’s upcoming home matchup against Stade de Reims on matchday 20.
