Looking Ahead to PSG’s Champions League Fixtures

The Champions League is considered to be one of the most famous club competitions and is hosted every year, featuring many top clubs from all over Europe. The 2022-23 Champions League is the 68th season of the elite competition, running from June 21, 2022, to June 10, 2023. Football is still considered the number one sport in the world, and this can be seen in its unrivalled popularity with betting enthusiasts and purist fans alike.

Paris Saint-Germain is once again competing in this year’s edition, and fans are keen to see them progress all the way to their first title in history. While this may be a big ask this season, most die-hard fans would love to see them make a final for the second time. If they can make a final, then anything can happen!

Below we look forward to the upcoming fixtures for PSG in the Champions League.

Form Coming Into the Competition

As PSG are the leading champions of Ligue 1 with some of the most well-known footballers in the world, it is no surprise that the fans have high expectations for the rest of the Champions League fixtures this season. The upcoming fixtures are packed with exciting games to look forward to and ever since the preliminary stage of the tournament started, PSG has been tipped to go far in the competition. Key players are performing well so far this season, and this has helped PSG to get some vital wins and qualify for the knockout stages. The fans and management will take great confidence from the current form, for example, Kylian Mbappé became the first player in Paris Saint-Germain history to score five goals, in a 7-0 victory in the French Cup in January.

After making their to the round of 16, PSG will now face Bayern Munich in two legs. Although PSG lost to Bayern Munich in the 2020 Champions League final, they will be confident about their chances over two legs. PSG will come face to face with Bayern Munich on February 14th and again March 8th so they will have the chance to redeem themselves from previous historic defeats.

Another plus for PSG is their outstanding performance in the Ligue 1 last season that cemented their place in the competition in the first place. Although many people have questioned if their simultaneous participating in Ligue during the remainder of the Champions League will have a knock on effect on whether they can claim victory, it appears that their players are not buckling under the pressure. In fact, with a star-studded squad that includes Lionel Messi, Neymar and Mbappé, there is no reason why the French club can’t be Champions League contenders in 2022-23. Messi is on a particularly good run of form and the world cup winner is in line to break Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for the most goals scored across Europe’s top 5 leagues.

The Fixtures Ahead

For those who are making a note of all of the fixtures for the Champions League, the first legs of the Round of 16 games will be played on the 14th, 15th, 21st and 22nd of February while the second legs are scheduled to be played across March on the 7, 8, 14, and 15. All of these matches will decide who makes the next round of the knockouts, with the competition set to culminate in the UEFA Champions League final which will take place at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul in Turkey.

Although PSG have never won a Champions League, the club have found true consistency in the group stages of the competition and their progression to the knockout stages for the past 10 seasons mean that they are a team to watch out for. Hopefully they can deliver the long awaited Champions League trophy for their patience fans.
