Serie A: Javier Zanetti Comments on Inter Milan’s Inability to Extend Milan Skriniar

Paris Saint-Germain signed their future anchor to their backline in Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, who will finish out the final six months of his deal with the Serie A side and sign a contract with the French giants.

Inter Milan’s vice-president Javier Zanetti joined Monday’s “Supertele” on DAZN, where he was asked about the behind the scene details that led to Skriniar’s pending exit once the 2022-23 season is over.

Zanetti noted that the Italian giant did everything within their financial capabilities to hold onto their captain, but both parties didn’t reach an agreement that made sense for all involved.

“Could it have been managed better? I do not know,” Zanetti said (h/t Calcio Mercato). “We have offered the player the renewal within our possibilities. You have to accept his decision. The most important thing is the response from the environment.

“We have to put Skriniar in a position to perform at its best until June. Inter will then go on, he will wear another shirt and we wish him the best. Hoping that you continue to do other performances like [on Sunday].”

PSG and Skriniar pushed for a transfer during the January window, but the capital club couldn’t agree to a fee that satisfied Inter Milan. As a result, the 27-year-old remained at the San Siro for the remainder of this season.

The Ligue 1 side has had good luck recruiting center-backs from Serie A, with Thiago Silva and Marquinhos having excellent careers in Paris; the team hopes that Skriniar will follow in their footsteps.
