Christophe Galtier Hits Back at Critics of This PSG Star

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has had a fair share of sluggish performances as of late.

Among them, Donnarumma allowed three goals in PSG’s Ligue 1 home win against Lille OSC last month, and he watched as a low-percentage shot attempt from Ludovic Blas hit the back of the net in the Ligue 1 powerhouse’s recent 4-2 win over Nantes.

Donnarumma has received plenty of outside criticism as of late, but PSG manager Christophe Galtier still has much confidence in the Italian goalkeeper. During a pre-match press conference ahead of PSG’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg matchup against Bayern Munich, Galtier took some time to laud Donnarumma as a “high-level” shot-stopper.

“He is a reliable keeper, very high-level, young,” Galtier said. “The goal against Nantes, once it happens to you, it should not happen again. That’s experience.

“But he was also decisive at very important moments, and I think he is a very high-level keeper.”

Donnarumma has allowed eight goals in seven Champions League appearances so far this season. He sure will look to do what he can to help keep the reigning Bundesliga champions off of the scoresheet on Wednesday.
