Exclusive: PSG’s Pursuit of Arsenal, Newcastle United Target Has ‘No Logic,’ Journalist Says

Paris Saint-Germain could revamp its attack this summer as Lionel Messi’s contract expires in June and there are rumors of the capital club wanting to move on from Neymar Jr.

One name that has recently arisen is the possible return of Moussa Diaby. The former PSG youth product has flourished at Bayer Leverkusen since leaving the capital club in 2019.

However, Diaby’s performance with the German side draws interest from a couple of Premier League clubs: Arsenal and Newcastle United. As a result, CBS Sports’ Jonathan Johnson believes a return to Paris for the 23-year-old is unlikely.

“Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby has been linked with a Parc des Princes homecoming and while he has grown massively since leaving the French capital, there is little to no logic in going out and spending upwards of $50 million to bring back a player who left in years gone by,” Johnson wrote in his latest PSG Talk column

“Instead, the lesson should be heeded and avoided in the future, with returns only considered when the potential deal is financially attractive.”

Diaby has made 157 appearances in all competitions for Bayer Leverkusen, where he’s scored 46 goals and recorded 43 assists. The France international is under contract until 2025, so the Bundesliga side must ponder whether to cash in on an offer or extend his contract.

Transfermarkt currently have Diaby valued at €50 million, but that price could increase if two Premier League clubs are involved.
