French Football Journalist Delivers Honest Take on Ramos’ PSG Future

Paris Saint-Germain will have multiple dilemmas to address in the upcoming summer transfer window, including the future of Sergio Ramos.

The Spanish defender joined PSG on a two-year free transfer deal in 2021. The agreement between the two sides did not include an option for a third year, so the veteran center-back will hit free agency following the ongoing season.

If it were up to CBS Sports reporter and PSG Talk columnist Jonathan Johnson, he would not push to renew Ramos’ deal on “current terms” for another year.

“This one is becoming the easiest to solve with the former Spain international’s form as you would expect of a veteran defender turning 37 this year,” Johnson wrote in his weekly PSG Talk column.

“Ramos’ leadership qualities have been useful at times and the move has not worked out as disastrously as first feared during a frankly awful first season, but renewing on current terms for at least another year would be unwise.”

Over the years, multiple players who regularly featured in Europe’s top five leagues have taken their talents to Saudi Arabia, from Cristiano Ronaldo to Ever Banega. Johnson believes that if Ramos wants to keep being a regular on the pitch, the Saudi Pro League should then be the next stop in his career.

“Moving on to Saudi Arabia seems a logical next step for the ex-Real Madrid man if he really wants to keep playing regularly,” Johnson wrote.

Ramos has featured in a combined 30 matches in the Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League competitions so far this season.
