How Yann Sommer Thanked Matthijs de Ligt After Goal Line Save vs. PSG

Paris Saint-Germain supporters will be haunted by the goal-line save made by Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt during the second leg last Wednesday at Allianz Arena.

Vitinha had an open net to score the second leg’s opening goal and level the aggregate scoring 1-1.

The Portuguese midfielder fired off a shot, but it didn’t have too much power behind, which was enough for de Ligt to make the save and receive a reward from goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

Sommer made the crucial mistake that led to the Vitinha scoring chance, so the Dutch defender bailed out his teammate. As a way of saying thank you, Sommer gifted the 23-year-old 700 kg of the Kägi brand chocolate.

While the gesture is nice and has gone viral, de Ligt cannot eat the entire chocolate alone; Sommer and de Ligt donated the chocolate to the “Münchner Tafel” charity in Munich (h/t Bavarian Football Works).

Münchner Tafel representative Steffen Horak was astounded to see such a significant contribution heading his direction and did not know much except that it was coming from the German giants.
