Former Brazilian international Ronaldinho believes that Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi is the current best player in the world.
Speaking at the Marca Sport Weekend 2023 event on Friday, Ronaldinho was asked who he believes is the top player in the sport today, and the one-time Ballon d’Or winner was straightforward with his answer.
“Messi,” Ronaldinho said.
Messi is among the early favorites for the 2023 Ballon d’Or award. The Argentine forward bolstered his resume for the honor at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he led the way for the Argentina national team. From the 10 total goal contributions to the two goals scored in the final, the PSG forward delivered when it mattered the most for La Albiceleste.
Messi has performed at a world-class level for PSG so far this season. While he failed to record a single goal contribution in PSG’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie against Bayern Munich, he did finish group stage play with four goals and four assists. He also leads Ligue 1 in goal contributions with 26.
Messi is expected to next be in action on Tuesday when Argentina meets Curacao for an international friendly fixture at the Estadio Unico Madre de Ciudades.
