Messi Has a Realistic Chance to One Day Shatter This Legendary Record

Lionel Messi made more room in his trophy cabinet on Saturday, as Paris Saint-Germain won Ligue 1 for the 11th time in club history.

All that PSG needed from its Ligue 1 away fixture against Strasbourg was a draw result to clinch the title, and it came away with just that on matchday 37.

Messi has won an astounding 43 trophies in his career across his runs with Barcelona, PSG, and the Argentina national team. Overall, he has won 12 league titles, including 10 La Liga titles from his run at Barcelona.

With a mere two more league titles, Messi will break the record for the most such titles won by an Argentine footballer. Alfredo Di Stefano currently holds this record, as he finished his career with 13 league titles, including nine La Liga wins from his nine-season tenure with Real Madrid.

Messi may not get another opportunity to win Ligue 1. The Argentine forward is set to become a free agent after this season, and he has been linked with a return to Barcelona.

Messi has chipped in with 16 goals and 16 assists in his ongoing second season in Ligue 1.
