How PSG Benefitted from Lionel Messi Tenure, According to Nasser Al-Khelaifi

The Lionel Messi era at Paris Saint-Germain is over as the Argentine closed out his chapter in the French capital with a 3-2 loss to Clermont Foot on Saturday at the Parc des Princes.

While there’s criticism around the two seasons Messi has spent at PSG, club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has a different take on how the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner has impacted the club during his tenure.

“I would like to thank Leo Messi for his two seasons in Paris,” Al-Khelaifi told PSG’s official website. “Seeing a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner in Rouge & Bleu and at the Parc des Princes, winning two consecutive French championships and inspiring our young players has been a pleasure.

“His contribution to Paris Saint-Germain and Ligue 1 cannot be underestimated and we wish Leo and his family all the best for the future.”

Messi will now focus on what’s next for his career as his contract expires on June 30, but it seems that the Argentine wants to have his future resolved before he officially becomes a free agent on July 1.

A report suggests that Al-Hilal is the next destination for Messi. However, FC Barcelona, who has yet to submit an official offer, and Inter Miami are in the mix for the seven-time Ballon d’Or

These next few days will be interesting to see what Messi decides to do; as for PSG, they’ll need to replace his production.
