Why Leandro Paredes Wants to Stick with PSG Amid Luis Enrique Take Over at Manager

Paris Saint-Germain will have several players returning from a loan stint during the 2022-23 season. One player hoping to remain with the French giants for the 2023-24 season is Leandro Paredes.

After spending the 2022-23 season on loan at Juventus, Paredes sees his future intertwined with PSG, where the arrival of Luis Enrique has the 28-year-old wanting to remain in Paris.

Although reports are linking Paredes to a move away from PSG, it seems that the allure of returning to the Ligue 1 side and the prospect of working under Enrique, a highly regarded coach, is too strong for the Argentine to resist.

“I have to come back to Paris. I want to enjoy the holidays, rest and enjoy my family and friends,” Paredes told TyC Sports (h/t Paris Fans). “I was happy in Paris, but I needed to play because the World Cup was approaching …

“If [Enrique] comes to the club, I would like to stay. He is a top coach, he has a name and that would be very important. They all speak well of him. Fernando Gago and Daniele De Rossi told me about him; he will be very good for the club. It will be very good in general, for the club and for us.”

Paredes has one more year left on his contract with PSG, so it will be up to sporting advisor Luis Campos to decide what the future hold for the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner.

The PSG midfield will have plenty of competition with the arrival of Manuel Ugarte and potentially Kang-in Lee. As a result, playing time won’t be guaranteed; it will be interesting to see if Paredes is willing to fight for a spot.
