No Mbappé In January? Real Madrid Reportedly Targeting This Player to Improve Attack

Real Madrid’s 3-1 loss to Atletico de Madrid on Sunday has the Spanish press speculating and wondering what Los Blancos can do to improve their attack once the January transfer window opens.

Barring any catastrophic events, Kylian Mbappé will likely remain at Paris Saint-Germain past the January window. As a result, the La Liga side will have to look at Plan B if they want an improved offense for the 2023–24 season.

According to Eduardo Inda from El Chiringuito (h/t Defensa Central), Real Madrid would consider paying the €50 million release clause for Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.

Williams is playing on an expiring contract this season, so the right-winger could be on the move. Athletic Bilbao might look to sell the player so as not to allow him to leave as a free agent.

Inda also states that another option the club is considering is to request the loan of a center forward. Real Madrid is becoming aware that the current squad is insufficient because injuries and unforeseen events may harm the team’s results this season.

It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid keeps Mbappé in mind when making any moves in January.
