PSG President Breaks His Silence Over Messi’s World Cup Recognition Remarks

The topic of Paris Saint-Germain not celebrating the 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph by Lionel Messi after the Argentine stated that he was the only player from the squad not to receive a celebration.

ESPN FC’s Frank Leboeuf was confused about why the Argentine wanted PSG to celebrate him at the Parc des Princes. Messi acknowledged in his remarks that a public celebration would be problematic after Argentina defeated France.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi broke his silence, stating that the squad internally congratulated Messi. Furthermore, the club chief notes that celebrating the accomplishment would be insensitive, considering the defeat was still fresh in France.

“We released a video and celebrated Messi in training and in private,” Al-Khelaifi said. “We are a French club. It was sensitive to celebrate at the stadium.”

Messi hasn’t missed an opportunity to take a swipe at PSG since leaving the capital club for Inter Miami in July. He’s clearly upset with the French giants, whether it’s sour grapes or the Argentine’s pettiness from his time in the French capital.

It will be interesting to see whether the 36-year-old keeps this stance or time heals all wounds.
