Ex-PSG Defender Thiago Silva Makes Premier League History, Stat Reveals

Former Paris Saint-Germain defender and captain Thiago Silva made history in the Premier League in Chelsea’s 4-4 draw with Manchester City on Sunday at Stamford Bridge.

OptaJoe pointed out X, formerly Twitter, that Silva is only the fourth different player to score a Premier League goal while aged 39 or older. The Brazilian scored the 1-1 equalizer after Erling Haaland opened the scoring.

Nonetheless, Silva joins Teddy Sheringham, Dean Windass, and Ryan Giggs as the four players to score a Premier League goal while being 39 or older.

Silva’s goal also comes before he talks about his former club. The veteran revealed that he and his former teammates failed in their goal of winning the UEFA Champions League trophy. The Chelsea center-back came close in 2020, but PSG fell to Bayern Munich.

Afterward, Silva would go on to win the Champions League in 2021 with Chelsea and former PSG manager Thomas Tuchel. As for PSG, they’re hoping that their change in transfer policy allows them to eventually lift Europe’s top club trophy.
