Former Trainer Opens Up About PSG’s Arnau Ténas Departure from Barcelona

Former FC Barcelona trainer Aureli Altimira recently reacted to Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Arnau Ténas’ impressive Ligue 1 debut.

Despite not being prepared to start, Ténas impressed coming off the bench. He made seven saves for PSG, keeping a clean sheet and denying the chances that Le Havre were creating in the 2-0 win last Sunday.

However, he also went into other topics surrounding the 22-year-old. Ténas arrived from the Spanish club to PSG as a free agent, signing a three-year contract with the French giants this past summer.

Is there any sadness in Arnau Ténas leaving Barcelona?

Altimira touched on the Barcelona departure of the young shot-stopper. He noted that seeing Ténas leave the Catalan side this summer was a disappointment.

“Of course, the goal of Barça’s trainers is that all the young people we have can break into the first team,” Altimira told the French media outlet RMC Sport. “But we know it’s difficult, that not everyone can play. Along with other colleagues, we were convinced that Arnau had the level to reach the first team.

“Unfortunately for him, in the Barça goal, there’s Marc-André ter Stegen. So he made his decision. At first, he thought he would be the No. 2, but there is also Iñaki Peña. But I believe that wherever Arnau plays, he will be a great footballer for many years.”

Nonetheless, he does understand why the PSG goalkeeper decided to leave and end his tenure with Barcelona. Ténas had completed his cycle with the B team and likely wanted to begin garnering experience as a first-team player.
