Leicester City and Zenit Out of Luck as São Paulo Defender Keen on PSG

São Paulo defender Lucas Beraldo wants PSG as he jumps from Brazilian to European football. Furthermore, the French side has indicated an interest in the player, who is the most highly valued in the tricolor squad.

While it seems Beraldo is Paris-bound, Globo Esporte reports that club officials are now trying to increase the amount the club will receive for the sale. They hope the French will offer more than €20 million (R$106 million) while simultaneously trying to increase their stake in the player’s rights.

São Paulo currently owns 60 percent of the player’s rights, with 20 percent in the hands of Beraldo. Finally, the other 20 percent belongs to XV de Piracicaba, where the defender started.

What clubs did Lucas Beraldo reject for PSG?

Aside from PSG, Zenit Saint Petersburg and Leicester City also approached the player. When it came to the Russian side, there was a rejection right away. The proposal of €18 million (R$96 million) did not please São Paulo.

Meanwhile, the player’s representatives also believe that the local league, which is on the periphery of Europe and whose federation is still under sanctions because of the war in Ukraine, is not enough for Beraldo.

Leicester informed São Paulo that they would cover Zenit’s offer, likely reaching the €20 million the Brazilian desires. The English team is a crucial gateway to the world’s most esteemed club competition, the Premier League.

The Foxes are currently leading in the Championship, England’s second division. They have excellent prospects of returning to the top tier next year. However, Beraldo prefers to join PSG. As a result, it would mean skipping the signing phase with a trampoline club that catapults him to a bigger side.
