Zaire-Emery Tops Benzema and Mbappé in Impressive Champions League Stat

Warren Zaire-Emery continues to show that age is nothing but a number for him. The 17-year-old was Paris Saint-Germain’s hero in the 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night at Signal Iduna Park.

After Dortmund scored the opening goal, Zaire-Emery responded minutes later to give the French giants life. Eventually, PSG advanced to the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League thanks to AC Milan’s 2-1 win over Newcastle United.

Furthermore, the Zaire-Emery game-tying goal also put him in Champions League history. OptaJean highlighted that the PSG midfielder became the youngest French player to score in the competition’s history at 17 years and 280 days.

The teenager took over former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema’s record after the Frenchman scored in December 2005 at 17 years and 352 days during his time with Olympique Lyonnais.

In third place as the young French scorer in the Champions League is Zaire-Emery’s teammate Kylian Mbappé, who scored in February 2017 at 18 years and 63 days while with AS Monaco.
