Paris Saint-Germain Outshines Barcelona and Liverpool in Academy Profits

Although Paris Saint-Germain isn’t afraid to splash the cash in the transfer market, the capital club has a youth academy that can rival any club in European football. Additionally, one of the criticisms the French giants receive is that they do not use enough talent from their youth ranks.

Even when PSG sells youth players, it feels like they need to do more to ensure they get a good amount in future sales, such as Christopher Nkunku and Moussa Diaby. Both players left PSG and eventually made a big move to the Premier League.

CIES Football Observatory recently published the 100 clubs with the most profitable academies in the world in terms of revenues generated over the last ten years by transferring players who spent at least three seasons there between the ages of 15 and 21.

Where does PSG rank in this? CIES puts PSG’s academy inside the top 20 most profitable academies. The Ligue 1 side ranks ahead of Liverpool and FC Barcelona, making €212 million in transfer sales.

Not every youth player will play for PSG, so it will be interesting to see if any youngster who isn’t keen on playing for the capital club can at least bring a good amount of revenue in a transfer sale.
