PSG, Barcelona, & Man Utd Set for Summer Showdown over Bayern Munich Star

In January, Bayern Munich successfully withstood Paris Saint-Germain’s pursuit of defender Matthijs de Ligt. However, according to Bild (h/t ESPN), the French club is set to renew their efforts and make another attempt to sign him in the upcoming summer transfer window.

L’Equipe stated that the 24-year-old was reluctant to make a winter transfer despite PSG coach Luis Enrique’s desire to strengthen his injury-plagued defense.

Additionally, Bayern Munich was keen to prevent the transfer due to their defensive weaknesses. They aimed to salvage a season in which they struggled to surpass Bayer Leverkusen in the league standings.

Nonetheless, Bild indicates that Bayern Munich could face challenges in retaining De Ligt if PSG rekindles their interest at the end of the season. Moreover, competitors could intensify their pursuit of the defender’s signature.

Manchester United and Barcelona have also emerged as potential suitors for De Ligt. Both clubs are grappling with defensive concerns. The Red Devils potentially hold an advantage in securing the center-back due to manager Erik Ten Hag’s prior coaching stint with him at Ajax.
