PSG’s Potential Pursuit of Barcelona’s Wonder Kids Deemed ‘Risky’ by Expert

Over the last few days, Paris Saint-Germain are one of the teams linked to two FC Barcelona youngsters. The Parisians have secured talent from the Catalan side in the past, but CBS Sports’ Jonathan Johnson believes that the high cost should have PSG steering away.

Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí are the two bright young stars that Barcelona have. Nonetheless, the two players’ contracts expire in 2026, and that’s when the capital club could potentially swoop in just like they did with Xavi Simons.

However, if Barcelona does sign both players to new contracts with enormous release clauses, Johnson, who spoke with PSG Talk, notes that these files should be discarded because of the high cost of landing them.

“I think It is very risky to pay such a big amount of money for either of those two talents,” Johnson said. “Don’t get me wrong, they’re fantastic youngsters, and they look like they’re going to have very bright futures in the game.

“However, you look at the minimum fee release clauses, you look at Barcelona’s position as well. And that transfer is exactly the thing that would aid Barcelona to rebuild themselves.”

Yamal and Cubarsí fit the profile that PSG is looking for in terms of young talent with a high ceiling of potential. Still, paying any high amount for a teenager is a gamble because their development can go in any direction.

It worked out for the Parisians when they landed Kylian Mbappé, so perhaps they might feel paying a high price is worth it to them.
