PSG’s Nasser Al-Khelaïfi Takes Ruthless Shot at Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez

In a landmark decision, the European Court of Justice ruled Thursday that UEFA had been abusing its dominant position in controlling European football, significantly boosting the Super League project.

Paris Saint-Germain has publicly opposed the Super League, and the Ligue de Football Professionnel has firmly rejected it, stating their support for UEFA competitions.

The capital club’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, issued a public statement regarding the Super League and PSG’s opposition.

“PSG rejects totally and completely any so-called Super League project, which has been the case since day one and will always remain the case,” Al-Khelaïfi said.

“As a proud European institution, PSG supports the principles of the European Sports Model, upholding values of open competition, inclusiveness, and working with all recognized stakeholders of European football – most importantly for the fans and players, who are the heartbeat of football.”

However, Al-Khelaïfi also went after Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez and Real Madrid. Pérez issued a statement, and behind him were the Champions League trophies.

“It’s strange to talk about the Super League with the UEFA Champions League trophies behind you,” Al-Khelaïfi told Baptiste Durieux.

Perez and Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta have publicly expressed their support for the A22 plans. Meanwhile, the Players’ Union (FIFPRO), UEFA, FIFA, and the European Club Association (ECA) have again taken a stand against the proposed new Europe-wide club competition.

Additionally, the Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, and Ligue 1, as well as clubs like Manchester United and Bayern Munich, have reiterated their lack of support for a Super League.
