Luis Enrique on Mukiele Staying at PSG Despite Bayern Munich, Chelsea Interest

Paris Saint-Germain defender Nordi Mukiele was rumored to be considering a departure from the club. Bayern Munich and Chelsea expressed interest in acquiring the French player but ultimately failed to reach any agreement with PSG.

Subsequently, Bayern Munich pursued Sacha Boey as an alternative option for the right-back position they sought to fill. Now that the January transfer window has come and gone, Mukiele has remained in Paris.

Ahead of their Friday contest against RC Strasbourg, manager Luis Enrique spoke to reporters and shared his thoughts on Mukiele staying with the squad despite the recent rumors.

“You have made the statement almost perfect,” Enrique told reporters (h/t Paris Fans). “There are players who play less, that’s true. What will happen next, I don’t know. Sometimes, players don’t play for a while and then become an undisputed player.

“But my decisions show what I think for the moment. There is not enough room for everyone. I don’t complain about any player; everyone is professional. Afterward, I use the players according to my ideas.”

Achraf Hakimi will return to the squad after Morocco crashed out in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations. Mukiele will be a valuable rotational piece as PSG looks to make deep runs in its three competitions.

It will be interesting to see if the depth will help the Ligue 1 side win a treble this 2023-24 season.
