Why PSG’s Pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Disgruntled Player Fell Through

When Milan Skriniar went down with an injury that would keep him out for a while, Paris Saint-Germain pivoted to finding another center-back. One of the rumored targets was Matthijs de Ligt.

The Dutchman is reportedly unhappy with his current situation at Bayern Munich. However, Le10Sport reported on Friday details as to why a de Ligt move didn’t happen during the January transfer window.

According to the outlet, it was the 24-year-old himself who did not want to leave during the season. His wish is more towards a summer transfer and not during the season.

Confronted with the inability to secure either Leny Yoro or de Ligt, PSG acknowledged reality. None of the available profiles on the market met the staff’s expectations. Given that no player would have contributed significantly to the squad, the Parisians opted for inaction.

It will be interesting to see if PSG’s decision not to pivot to other targets proves wise. The capital club did add Lucas Beraldo, but their depth could be tested as they’re alive in the competitions so far.
